CASTLEGAR AQUANAUTS

Since “its inception in 1961 the Castlegar
Aquanauts Swim Club has provided the younger
area residents with a very high calibre swim fit
ness program. This swim program has been very
beneficial to the hundreds of individuals who have
participated at one time or another as an
Aquanaut. — ‘ mee "

Team spirit, fellowship, building of charac
ter, physical training and a knowledge of swim
fundamentals have always been attributes
provided by top level instructors to every
youngster who has had the opportunity to be a
member of the Aquanauts.

This year's Aquanauts are no exception as
under the guidance of coach John Fairbairn and
his assistant Tom Carew the swimmers are
demonstrating all the qualities of past years by

The many individual and team awards won
over the years at swim meet competitions surely
prove that the Aquanauts swim program ranks
high in the province. This is most certainly a credit
to.a club coming from a city the size of Castlegar.

The Castlegar Aquanauts welcome all swimmers to their
annual swim meet at the Bob Brandson Pool. Hopefully
one of these years we'll be able to welcome everyone to a
new facility (indoor or outdoors, it doesn’t really matter).
It is encouraging to see the growth of aquatic activities
with most of the Kootenay region clubs experiencing dra-
matic increases in memberships. Swimming continues as
one of the leading activities for lifetime and health and
fitness.

Competition between the swim teams is kenner than
ever, individual finishes more exciting. After five swim
meets, no team has;won more than twice. Some Kootenay
swimmers are attaining provincially recognized times,
some have gone on to provincial teams.

Castlegar continues to have the largest club with over 100
swimmers, many of whom compete regularly. But the
Trail and Nelson clubs are rapidly gaining ground, each
with over 70 members.

The two-day Castlegar meet should prove exciting for
both swimmers and spectators. The public is invited to see
some of the top swimmers in the province. Action begins
