The pris:ters union is employing des- perate means to ‘‘oreik the Recorp.” It is true this is a day of ‘record break- ing,” Lut this one Las gone though some pretty hard times and will prob- ably eurvive the attack. The other evening Mr. Brill came to this office with the etory that the preeident of the union Shad offered him {60 and he and his wife’s tare to Spokane, if he would quit working for the Recorp. It was probably upon some such arrangements that he left in the middle of the night without notice, There are imany things now being done by those fellows that is not, not only unjuet and wrong, but unlawful, and although three mem- bers of the city council stooped to assist them in their dirty work, the business men of Rortlund we believe will not. The Columbia & Ocestern has now opened its line to Robson and connects there with the C. P. R. branch to Nelson tu that one can leave Rossland at, § v'clock a.m. Leaving there ut 5 p. you can get back to Rossland at 9 p. i the eame day. ‘This arrangement. wiil be of great benefie ard convenience to the citizens of Rossland and Mr, Heinze isentitled to much endit for his enter- rise, = Today the ground is clothed in white and Russland has pit on the air of win- ter, although the snow may go off and several weeks of nice sunshine weather follow. The ground is not frozen and the eun occasionally takes a peep through the clouds and promises to re- lent, but the printers’ hailstorm of wrath never ceases, The Miner has announeed that it would bitter y oppose the authorization of the i of $15,000 le ‘The council made it 422,500 and that shect printw the bylaws this morning without comment. Ifthe ‘Recorp had: printed them instead. it wouid no doubt have been different. PRINCE OF WALES SUED. Hinde claimed He Was Paid Money That Wasn't His. In the Lod Mayor's court today the Prince of Wales was sued Ly a man named Hinde to recover £60,000 which he alleged wae paid to the prince wrong- fully. The plaintiff declared that the money, belonged to ao certain Mr. Allen, of whore cstate he was the assignee, and he further claimed the sum of £150,000 from Lord Suffolk, alleging that the lat- ter had euborned Croll to commit per- jury before Lord Bramwell at the trial in 1887 in councetion with the liquida- tion. Sir Charles Lewis in behalf of the Prince of Wales anid the Earl of Suffulk, neked that the pro-cedings be quashed, on the gromnds that the allegations were nothing u.ore than @ frivolons and vex- atious tisruc of non-sense, and he sub- initted un aflidavit to that effect. The plaintiff then addressed the court declaring he hal been told that the Prince of Wales reccived the money re- ferred to, and he then proceeded to charge Lord Rrairwell with defrauding Allen’s widow out uf £160,000 in order to obtain promction and a peerage.
