By Father HERMAN ENGBERINK St. Rita's Parish This story is based on a short German and it explains St. Paul's 2 Cor. 12:9 and 10. 1 am not speaking heré about the Caterpillar tractor you see on con- struction sites. This story is about a simple, small insect, an animal which you find on leaves of trees or in the grass along the side of the road, an animal with lots of short-hair on its body. It was a beautiful weekend mor- ning in summer. Our caterpillar crawis slowly by. the side of the road. She is very hungry. Suddenly she turns and moves straight to the highway. She has just set her stumpy feet on the blacktop and she sees a human being approaching. She is frightened. The man is like a giant and strong. If he sets one foot on her, it would mean the end, but instead he bends down and says: “Tell me, you must be mad, you cannot cross the road, before you have gone one yard you will be crushed. Don’t you see all these cars, trucks and buses? Twenty per minute?’" No, our caterpillar knows nothing about cars and trucks. ‘Be careful,’’ the man says again. ‘‘You have to put this out of your mind. You were bora on this side of the street. It may be your bad luck, but you have to accept it.”” Was-the-man-not-right? The chan- ce to cross the road and reach the other side alive is certainly very slim. Surely-it would not be wise to en- courage someone to work himself out of or above the natural, predetermined circumstances of life. Not for the caterpillar at least. And for us? For us, the same counts as for the caterpillar. Yet she starts off op her stumpy feet. Twenty cars per minute, she goes-ofi. No haste, no fear, no tactics. She goes on and on, and reaches the other side. The Lord said to me: ‘Let my grace be sufficient for you and my strength will be powerful in your weakness. Therefore, | am always full of hope in my weakness because when I am weak, I am strong. Is this a fitting word for a cater- pillar? I think it is more fitting for us. Probably you have experienced the same feeling, the feeling to stand before a situation with no way out, no way to move on. Perhaps you, too, thought that it is all in vain — in vain to talk to young people, “Do you know that Christ came also for those whose voices were not heard, who were despised everywhere? Exactly for them, He came. Not for the others who thought they could do everything by themselves. And He encouraged them not to give up. I do not think that.we have to put our life at risk as the caterpillar, but at least that we try to say yes to our life and to work at it. I think it is worthwhile. Perhaps we can set small steps only, but it is the way go become ~strong. ‘We must not lose courage because we are given the hope to ‘be carried by the love of Christ who himself walked a way which seemed hopeless., The caterpillar made it. Was she lucky? Perhaps, but are we not ina far better position than she? Castlegar pastor attends Lutheran convention St. Peter Lutheran Church sent its pastor, Rev. LEGALS Dr. Eugene Bunkowske, fourth vice- president of the Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod, had a strong mission emphasis, Backus said in a news release. Bunkowske pointed out that while North America is ex- periencing a loss of 7,200 Christians every day, Africa is gaining 22,000 Christian converts during that same period of time. He also reminded the convention of the enormous mission opportunities confronting the Christian Church in Canada, Backus said Backus was one of several pastors who were officially welcomed into the Alberta-B.C. district and asked to sign the district constitution. The Lutheran Church-Canada had its beginnings many years ago when the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod began sending missionaries to serve Lutheran immigrants north into Canada. Three years ago, the Lutheran Church-Canada became an church body NOTICE TO CREDITORS ANO OTHERS NOTICE is hereby given that creditors and others having claims against the Estate of PETER PETER VERIGIN, also known as PETER P.
