Page 6B The Castlegar Sun A Pouiticat Feature FOR THE RECORD The National Party of Canada is OPPOSED to the export of our water. Recently the National Party was entrusted with infor mation documenting that a por. tion of the non-treaty water was contracted away on the Cotumbia River This information was brought forward to the Public through a representative of the Kootenay Okanagan Electric Consumers Association. The U.S. already has claim to at least 25 per cent of our water and wants more, compliments of the Free Trade Agreement. Every year there are more lakes with their levels lowered in Canada so the U.S. can keep their levels high. We want to cancel the free trade agreement and negotiate a fair trade agree ment instead. Our environment is in criti cal condition, Our economy 1s a disaster, Our democracy is all but gone The National Party of Canada recognizes the commonality to these problems is the foreign ownership (not investment), Out of all the “investment” that came into. this-country, over 90 per cent was in the form of takeovers NOT investment We must get control of our resources now, before they are gone forever. We can give thanks for the goodly supply of wood that continues to keep so many of us warm on frosty mornings. I admire the industry of my neighbor who uses fire “logs” made of tightly rolled, dampened and dried old newspapers for his ke re ay fireplace, thus ensuring that a few more trees survive. Many would say it is not necessary. Yet, according to the Bible, we live in a world that Christ created (St. John 1: 1-3) a word that Christ sustains (Colossians 1:15-17) We all have sinned against God, ourselves and others (Romans 3:23) and are in need of God's forgiveness. Christ died for our sins, and He invites us to experience his forgiveness and love. (Romans 5:1-8) So hrist is really the only one who can meet our spiritual need. Peter expressed this truth in Acts 4:12 in there words: “Salvation is found in go one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” Only by personal trust in Christ, can anyone be made right with God and enjoy the assurance of salvation. So... EVERYONE needs the redeeming action of Christ in their life! (See Romans 6:23) CASTLEGAR UNITED CHURCH [| 2224 - 6th Ave., Castlegar , Ph. 365-8337 Minister: The Rev. Before anyone can come to believe in Christ and trust Him as their Savior, they have to “hear about Christ” and about their need of a Savior. God's Spirit uses the truth about Christ, and the truth about ourselves to cause us to see our need of forgiveness. (See Romans 10:8-14) (Acts 2:36-38) (Acts 16:31) Asa person sees their need, turns from their sins and places faith in Christ... a whole new relationship begins. The Bible calls this “the new birth” and it simply means that Christ is invited to dwell with that person and to Suide and coach then in a life that honors God and blesses their fellowmen. The Main Concern Of The Christian Living for Christ and being guided by Christ should be one of the main concerns of a Christian. (2 Peter 3:18) The other main concern should be to share the truth of Christ with those we come in contact with so that they can find peace and forgiveness and a new life through Christ Wednesday, October 6, 1993 Our Community Cares aout | fi Sparky’s Inspection List Help Inspector Sparky Solve His Most Important Case: Firesafety in Your Home a) Plan Two Ways Out Know exactly what steps to take in case fire breaks out. Discc ver two ways out of every room, in case smoke or flames block one. C7 Establish a Meeting Place Have a place outside where everyone can meet. Memorize the number of the fire department, and have a neighbor's home in mind where you can make the call. Sparky says, “Tape the number to your phone.” a) Get Out, Stay Out Once alerted to danger, don't waste a: second. Leave immediately, and go to your meeting place. Don't even think about going back inside — not for anything! Oo Get Down, Crawl Low If you smell smoke or see flames, use your alternate exit. If you must pass through smoke to get out, drop to the floor and crawl to your nearest way out Smoke and heat rise, while cooler, easy-to-breathe air stays low, near your knees. This one's easy for Sparky! Oo Stop, Drop, and Roll Sparky's favorite thing to do — and what you should do :if your clothes catch tire. Stop everything, drop to the floor or ground.
