Damage to the truck was estimated at $25,000. Driver walks away from truck crash “SUN ‘STAFF A 28-year-old Castlegar man is lucky to be alive after rolling a DCT Chambers chip truck he was driving on the evening of April 5. RCMP say Craig Dyer was unable to complete a right cor- ner, causing him to travel to the wrong side of the road and roll the truck into the ditch Dyer escaped unhurt The accident happened 4.5 kilometres west of Castlegar on Highway 3. The load of wood chips had to be unloaded before the rig could be uprighted and towed from the scene. Damage to the truck is esti- mated at more than $25,000. Youths charged in thefts SUN STAFF Three Castlegar youths appeared in Castlegar Provincial Court on Monday to answer to charges of vandalism and theft associated with various crimes committed from March 11 to April 6. Cpl. Al Hudema of the Castle- gar RCMP said the youths were charged in connection with 22 crimes, but declined to say specifically which crimes. The youths, who are ages 13, 14 and 15, were on probation at the time of the incidents. Russell David Sapriken was sentenced to three months in jail and another six months in jail, to be served consecutively, after pleading guilty to two counts of breach of probation on March 27 Vernon Paul Markin was fined $400, prohibited from driving for one year, and released on six months recognizance after plead- ing guilty to failure to stop at the scene of an accident. Markin also received a $400 fine and is prohibited from driv- ing for one year after pleading guilty to failure to report an acci- dent. Judge Sperry handed down the sentence on April 3. resulted in 12 liquor seizures and four minor drug seizures. Hudema said the seizures were mostly from youths who will “be dealt with through the normal process”’.
