The reason it gave for not demanding a Tike duty on the lead ores of the Slocan was that the American tariff on lead, one’ and s half cents 9 pound was sufficient to warrant them being treated on this side of the line. To show how little it knew about such matters, it has been shown by the Record, that on top of the daty named, that if the silver-lead ores, of the Slocan were hauled and treated frée, anywhere in the province, that the owners could still better afford to ship to the Ameri- can smelters. —_— A Musical Treat. The contract has been let to Professor . Dreyfous to farnish music for the Grand Mard-Grass Carnival which takes place next Thursday evening at the Dominion theater.
