The members enjoyed an excellent meal and the even- ing ended with the closing FUNERAL FOR A FETUS Should an aborted fetus have a funeral? A recent let- ter read on CBC Morningside suggested a funeral would be good therapy for the mother. of the fetus. Abortion traumatizes the mother. Guilt is the greatest side effect of such an “oper- ation.” Perhaps, suggested the writer, a funeral could bring some meaning to the termination of this unformed being. As a minister, let me sug- gest this as an appropriate eulogy: Our Father, lover of un- loved things, we ask your forgiveness for pur hypoc- risy. We who. wielded the knife to take this life now mourn, not for our dead, but for the unfortunate blob of tissue which had the mis- fortune of trying to become a child. We thank you, Our Father, for words that take away the reality of what happened. Wé did not kill, we terminated the pregnancy. It was not life, just an infection whose only function was cell divi- sion. We know Lord, that if we could have asked this fetus if it had wanted to live it would have graciously said no. Af- ter all, who would want a mother that only loved those that brought her pleasure. We claim the old adage, “If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, did it make a noise?) And we apply it to this “thing.” “Ifa fetus ‘stops’ like Honda. Every 1986 Honda we sell carries a new 5-year/80,000 kilometre.warranty on major components. So if you follow recommended before it becomes a child, could it ever have existed?” Finally, we pray for those who are the survivors, Many of us would not be here if our own mothers had had the choice, so we thank you were not born in this generation. We thank you that. we have found ‘meaning in that fact that though earthly parents reject us, Our Heavenly Fa- ther loves us. " And we pray for the many mothers today who when faced with the choice swallow pride and choose life. But it is not yet known if the ingredient causes prob- lems.in homemade wines, an industry spokesman said. Ministry: spokesman Sid Rodaway said at least one product on the market lists urea as an ingredient. He said the product is “a nu- trient — a-booster or ener- gizer in the fermentation process.” John Arthurs, co-owner of the Ontario franchise of Wine-Art, said that when news of the commercial wines’ withdrawal from sale broke “we immediately checked our shelves.” The only product found to contain urea was the ener- gizer Yeast Nutrient, which was removed from shelves, he said. Yeast Nutrient has been largely supplanted anyway by another product that con- tains no urea, said Arthurs.
