Doukhobor Benevelant Society was
held at Parkside Villa in Grand Forks
on July 16at 1 p.m

The board of directors gave an ac-

buildings for seniors and the disabled

The commanding officer of the
Royal Canadian Mounted Police in
British Columbia will officially gpen
the new Nelson subdivision headquar-
ters building Aug. 9 at 2 p.m., a news
release from the RCMP says.

“This event signifies the force’s con:
tinued commitment to maintaining top
quality law enforcement throughout
the country,’ deputy commissioner
Don Wilson says in the release. **By in-
vesting in a facility that makes use of all
currently available policing
technology, we are better equipped to
perform our duties.”

Located on the West Arm of the
Kootenay Lake at 1010 Second St., the
new headquarters building represents a
$4 million investment in the Nelson
economy, making it a significant con-
struction project in this area, the RC-
MP say

Supt. Jim Druchet,
manding the subdivision’s day-to-day
operations, says that

“The new facility affords a much
more efficient working environment
for the 57 staff members who work in
Nelson and also provides the other 221
personnel in the subdivision with
significantly improved law enfor-
cement resources,” says Supt. Jim
Druchet, commanding the
subdivision’s day-to-day operations.

Although the RCMP does not have
direct jurisdiction in the City of
Nelson, which is served by the City OF
Nelson police department, it is respon-
sible for enforcing all federal and
provincial statutes in the surrounding
area and collaborates with the Nelson
city police force in joint investigations,
primarily in the drug enforcement
field, the release says.

Members of the public are welcome
toattend an official opening which will
be celebrated with a ribbon-cutting
ceremony and dedication
remarks. Upon the conclusion of the
ceremony, the new subdivision com-
plex will be open to public viewing until
4 p.m. RCMP members will be on site
to explain the facility
