Cutoaco, March 10.—A special to the Chronicle from Honolulu, via San Fran- cisco saya: Concerning the Samoan sit- uation, a startling report was given out by an officer of the cruiser Philadelphia toa friend hero just prior to the sailing ofthe flagship for Apin, According to .. the officers, Admiral Kaute is instructed touphold all the recent decisions of Chief Justice Chambers respecting the election of the king in Samoa, and mat- tera growing out of it. He is to co-oper- ate at once with the American and Brit- ish consuls and declare Malicota Tanus the rightful and legal king. Malieota will be placed in authority under the authority of American and British mar- ines. Mataafa, who now has military ascendancy, wil] be called upon to sur- ‘render, Should he refuse to do sc Ad- miral Kauts is instructed to proceed, by force if necessary, to establish the auth- ority of the duly elected king, Malieota Tanus. It is believed there will be a struggle. Mataafa, is brave, and. has the endorsement of, and will be suppor- ted by Germany.
