By BRENDAN HALPER Sun staff writer ene The Feb. 23-24 Rocky Moun- tain Freeskate Competition held in Cranbrook was the final competi- tive event of the season for the Castlegar Figure Skating Club, Nineteen clubs from B.C, and Alberta participated in the event. ‘The Castlegar club proved very competitive in Rossland with many skaters placing well up there in final results. . Alexis Rideout placed second in the 9-and-under pre-p: ladies class. In the pre-preliminary ladies 10-and-over, Erin Lewis placed first in Flyte A, Michelle Kooznet- soff was first in Flyte B and first in Flyte C was Vanessa Kastrukoff. Rachel Freidrich was third in Flyte A of Preliminary Ladies 11- and-over and Nicole Hackett sec- ond in Flyte B. Charmaine Garay skated to .third spot in the Pre-Juvenile Ladies. At second place in Flyte A of the Juvenile Ladies was Heather Sheppard while Laura Kosowan took fourth in Flyte B, Selena Fodor second in Flyte C and Megan Van Vliet was fifth in Flyte D. Amanda McLachan and Erin Lewis Placed fourth in Ladies pairs while Heather Shep- pard and Selina Fodor eamed first place in the Junior Ladies pairs. Fodor also placed second in Junior Ladies Antistic. The club also did well in two previous events this year, the Jan. 13 Rossland Mini for younger skaters under the Jr. Bronze level and the Feb. 2/3 West Kootenay Championships.
