Bi eis * Ss 5 Ds scholarships A total of 11 Stanley Humphries ry School graduates have been awarded major scholarships, neatly. double the number from the year before when sux scholarships were won.‘ Nine of the students — Gwenn Bullanoff, Gerald Dooley, Kilmeny Jones, Linds King, Jeff Mair, Cheryl North, Shannon Smithers, Jim Zibin and Lee Syrja — captured prestigious provincial scholarships, while two others, Sherry Menzies and Linda Guymér were named winners of district scholarships. Both types of scholarships are worth $1,000 each, are funded by the provincial government and are based, in part, on the results of the province-wide English 12 examination. In addition, provincial scholarship candi- dates are required to write at least three other provincial examinations in their choice of Grade 12 subjects. District scholarship candidates must enrol in a bona-fide post-secondary institution of their choice, or a training school approved by the Ministry of Labor, no later than Sept. 30 of the year in which the award is pre- stented in order to receive their award for this year. However, if a student wishes to spend the next year eut of school, he or she must enrol within 18 months in order to receive the scholarhip. Lynda Guymer will be taking the Graphic Design program at Selkirk with the intention of working in advertising or illustrating in the future.
