Beaver Valley have recently become involved in improving
their region and are excited about the While

multi-year project will mean more than 400 jobs for the next
few years. The economy is already improving.

More than 30 new businesses opened in the greater
Trail region during the past year. Moreover, many more
businesses and services are planning to be operational later
this year.

Trail Regional Hospital is planning to establish
regional trauma centre, In addition, the hospital's new CAT
scanner will be in operation shortly, These will enable Trail
to continue delivering highly specialized medical services to
residents outside the Lower Mainland.

The old Junior High school located in downtown Trail
will be undergoing a major redevelopment to become the
new Selkirk College Trail Campus. The complex will also
house a new senior citizen's centre, as well as a centre for
the arts.

Encouraging for the entire region is the growing
interest in the mighty Columbia River. While neglected for
many years, valley residents are keen to see the river banks
cleaned up and the river utilized for the community's
benefit.

Not surprisingly, Trail and Castlegar are working
together to host the first annual jet boat race on the fast
water between the Keenleyside Dam and the U.S, border.

The greater Trail region is aggressively promoting
various events as a means of attracting visitors to the West
Kootenay. So far the results are encouraging with many
reereation-level and championship-calibre sports events
organized, With the high quality sports facilities and natural
amenities available the West Kootenay can easily attract
many visitors, but only as long as more events are
organized. ,

The Western Canada Ski Hall of Fame will soon move
into a new facility of its own at the Rossland Gold Mine and
Museum Complex thanks to an Expo Legacy Grant. ‘This Ski
Hall of Fame is emerging as Canada’s most exclusive Hall of
Fame‘ and should become a popular attraction in coming
years.

Much of the progress throughout the greater Trail
region is attributed to the new spirit and involvement by
tesidents. The past year has been eventful, but the next few
years should prove even more so.

‘There is no question that life in the greater Trail region
and the West Kootenay is changing — and changing for the
better. e
