From a Scotish paper
comes a resume of the life of
Gene Autry, who in his heyday
sold more records than Bing
Crosby, and received more fan
mail than Clark Gable.

Here are some excerpts
from a full page article.

Once upon a time the late

School Must

Ernie and Bert, those two
pigs who thrived on the left-
over lunches of West Vancou-
ver secondary school last
spring, were dining illegally.

‘The two hogs, 200 pounds
each when they were slaugh-
tered in June, shouldn't have
been fed raw garbage, accord-
ing to the federal agriculture
department,

The garbage should have
been cooked first.

And if the school wants to
continue its pig-raising project,
it's going to have to get a
federal licence.

“Such licences are only
granted after certain conditions
are met,” wrote Dr. H. W.
Knapp, regional veterinarian
for the department, in a letter
to school district superinten-
dent E. M. Carlin.

‘The meat of Ernie and Bert
—the names were supplied by .
the students who raised them—
was tested at the University of
BC.

“It was as good or better
than the meat on the pigs the
university raises scientifically,”
said Mrs, Ann Barker, the
parent who allowed the pigs to
