Retiring trustees honored

School Board Chairman Gor-

Ed Conroy, left, receives a

Conroy retired after five
years as a trustee for School
District No. 9.

Conroy served on several
committees and was mainly the
school representative to Tarrys
Elementary.

During the past two years,

the Board and involved in
negotiations with CUPE and
the teacher's union.

Conroy is best remembered
for his fight to save rural
schools and his interest in
bringing a broad range of com-
munity matters to the Board
table.

who retired from the Board after
11 years of continous service.

During that time, Smecher
served on many of the Board's
committees, most notably on the
Management and the Build-
ings/Grounds committees. She
has served diligently on the
Board Negotiation team bar-
gaining with both CUPE and the
teachers,

Throughout the years, she
was school representative to
most of the area's schools and
was Board Chairman for three
years from 1983-1986, Smech-
er established a reputation as a
tough negotiator, a thoroughly
Prepared committee member,
and a capable speaker at the
Board table,

he has been Vice-Chairman of
