Waiving the point for the time being that after the’ election the government is not the least likely to be Liberal let us see what 'con- sideration we have received at the hands of the present government. Kootenay wanted tiberal grants for the much needed river im- provements and public buildings. The grants under the first head have not been adequate at any time since Laurier came into power, and only two towns have any prospect of federal buildings, K y wanted a memb in the house of commons all to itself. This demand was supported by pe- titions from Boards of Trade and other public bodies but was denied on alleged constitutional. grounds, though the constitution has not been allowed to stand in the way of the government when any or its pet projects were at stake.
