16-Trail Times-Friday, April 11, 1986 Recreation i : I ' ' I .' ' : I J I ! ' 1 . . I ! i ' l ' , ' This week, although it is now an old story, I thought I should catch up on some news which has been on my shelf for the past week or so. Naturally, you say, "I'll bet it's curling news," and you are absolutely right, in fact, along with catching up on the curling news, spiels and such, I want to touch on some other items which I got first hand, having attended those functions when the news was made. First I'll go to the functions, the Minor Hockey Banquet and the Kokanee Derby Club annual meeting. Both were held in the Uplander Hotel ballroom and both were well conducted alhtough I along with a number of others would have liked to have seen more people out at the latter meeting. This is a very worthy project which I have supported for quite a long tbne and although it does not have the members it once bad I believe it can be brought back to its former role on the Rossland scene if given the chance. The executive, mostly young people who are feeling their way at present, would appreciate more people to inspire them to do things they have been thinking about but have not tried yet. These young people desene a break and a good shot of publicity would certainly do them no harm. The meeting was well run and the entertainment and food was good too, especially the wildlife movies which were excellent. The Minor Hockey Banquet and the organization which runs it certainly needs no introduction to the people of this town. They are a large group of young men who put in many hours of really great effort to make it what it is today. I was invited to sit at the head table for this function and felt very honored to be there with some of the elite of Rossland hockey and be able to look out on the faces of the youngsters and their mentors and to see the looks on the faces of the very young as they were called on to get their various awards. The people who run this organization are numerous and if I mentioned one or two and didn't remember others by name I would be doing all a disservice so I'm just going to deal with generalities and let it go at that. The Rossland Mixed Curling Club spiel was held on March 21-22-23 at the curling rink, with a large bunch of rinks taking part. Four competitions were decided, A, B, C, and D with a total of 14 main awards handed out. You will notice that I will name them in the categories they won prizes in, as some are well known to me, others not so well, inititals will have to suffice. In "A" Alfie Albo took first, wife Dottie, Tony Topolinaky and his wife assiting, runner-up was the :)I EPP-J~ALKP:: "illl l,. Lloyd rink of Trail with fl. Davidson, S. Clements and J.
