Saturday, March 28, 1992 @ SHSS making the big move On March 12, staff with the assistance of some students began moving into the up- graded west wing. For some, the move was most interesting. Many long lost, and forgotten, artifacts turned up in the weirdest places. Many will be archived as mementos of “Stanley’s” past. : In the move, some areas found their homes again while others are in temporary facil- ities until the east wing is completed. The Student Lounge, less the kitchen, is complete. The furniture for the lounge will arrive soon, and it is hoped that the kitchen will be fully opera- tional in September with a full hot food service. Demolition of the east wing is progressing quickly. All of the materials are made and available so this phase of the project should be completed by the end June. The office, library, chemistry lab, activity room, gym lobby, crosshall, and exterior are to be done over the summer. The general contractor, SD Stanley Humphries Secondary School CROSSINGS finished before the September opening. Students returned to school on Tuesday and began with an assembly and open house of the new west wing. At the assembly students were reminded of expectations pertaining to the building and its care. There will be zero tol- erance for any defacing of the new facilities and equipment. During the open house, stu- dents were provided with juice to christen the Student Lounge. Very soon, students will be selection for next year. Coun- selors have been preparing a Course Selection Guide which will be available to every stu- dent. Parents are strongly en- couraged to get involved in this process and assist their sons or daughters to make cor- rect choices. Counselors and teachers will be making presentations to classes and assisting in the process at school, and they will -be available to parents and students to answer questions. SHSS is hoping to expand its Career Preparation Pro- grams from two to six. The school board will hopefully be giving approval to a new Ca- reer Preparation format and the programs of Business Ed- . ucation, Fashion Merchandis- ing, General Mechanics, Car- pentry/Joinery, Food Services and Video Communications. Career Preparation Pro- grams are only available to the Grade 11 and 12 students. Students in grade 11 take two CP courses, while Grade 12 students take four CP courses, one of which is 100 hours of Castlegar Rebels | ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Thursday, April 2 7:00 p.m. Castlegar Community Complex ALL CASTLEGAR AND DISTRICT RESIDENTS WELCOME!
