Until most recently such a place was hard to find, but now, thanks to an innovative program, anyone can access Community Ww Kitchens, a program which is designed to meet those needs Although Community Kitchens is new to Castlegar and Trail, other communities, such as Kamloops have had tremendous success with the program. Community Kitchens is.a’small’group of individuals who under the direction of a group leader (a nutritionist), plan, shop for and cook a meal which incorporates menu planning, value shopping, and proper nutrition. The beauty of the program is thai anyone can access it, from single parents to working individuals The group cooks anywhere from four to five meals once a month, and then portions out the dishes according to each family’s size. With donations from within the community, those with limited income need only pay $2 per cooking session per person in their family While those with adequate income will be paying more per serving, those with limited income rely heav ily upon donations from within the community. The Community Kitchen, which is featured on this page received donations from Super Valu, Purnel Distributors, Mother Natures Pantry, Dairy Queen, and the Flamingo Motel. Because some of the group are.in the Young Mom's Program, Kootenay-Columbia Child Care donated the kitchen facility If you or your group would like to be a part of Community Kitchens your donations would be greatly appreciated.
