A By-Law vor Levyine A Roap TAX FoR THE YEAR 1897. Wuereas it is deemed expedient and necessary that provision be made for necessary expenses of the Corporation of the City of Rossland: Now TuErerore the Municipal Council of the Corporation of the City of Ross- land enacts and ordains as follows: (1). There is hereby imposed and Jevied and there shall be raised and col- lected an equal rate by way of road tax of Two Dollars per head per annum upon all male persons between the ages of twenty-one and fifty residing within the City of Rossland; 2) ‘the aioresaid tax shall be due and payable to the Treasurer of the Cor- ion of the City of Rossland at his ing such such transfer is not made for the pur- pose of defeating, delaying or hinderiny any persons who became creditors such licensee while he held such license in respect of the business carried on in such licensed premices and on pay- ment of the fee therefor set out in the Schedule hereto, transfer said license to any person or to anv other premises tote approved by said Commissioners. 35. From and after the date of the passing hereof the keeper of premises which are licensed under the provisions of this by-law. Every driver of a cab shall, when equired by any. pcl.ce officer, give of- ficial information with reference to the address of the house or place to which he may have driven any passengers and any other information connected there- with which may have come to his knowledge, and a refusal of such infor- mation shall be deemed a breach of this by-law. 12, Every driver of any cab or dray, shall when called upon to do so, assist any police officer in the conveyance in nis cab or dray of any person or per- sons to the common gaol, or any police station in the City, or in the conyey- ance to the hospital or elsewhere, if re- quired, any person who may have met with an accident, or is ill or wounded, provided such illness is not of an in- fectiuus nature; and said driver shall be entitled to his usual fare therefor by such persons so carried, or by the City. 13. No cab, cart, express wagon or other vehicle kept for hire, shall stand upon or in any street while waiting for hire or engagement, except upon and on such stands as may from time to time be appointed by the Council for that purpose, 14. No person (not being a Govern- ment officer selling by auction govern- ment property, or sherilf’s officer or bailiff, selling lands, goods, or chattels, taken in execution or for the satisfac- tion of rent or taxes,) shall sell or put up for sale by public auction, goods, wares, merchandise, effects, or real estate, or carry on the business or call- ing of an autioneer within the City,jwith- out having obtained a license so to do, and paid the fee therefor, and every such license shall contain the name of one person only, and shall not be used by a partner, servant or agent of such per- gon 80 licensed, . 15. No hawker, or petty chapman, or other person who carries ona petty trade or who goes from place to plave to other men’s houses on fuot, or with any ani- mal bearing or drawing gouis, wares, or merchandise for sale, or otherwise carry goods, wares, or merchandise for sale, other than the growth, produce, or man- ufacture of the Province of British Col- umbia, shall exercise such calling with- in the City without having obtained a license so to do, and paid the fee there- for set out the Schedule to this by-law. 3. No person either on his own be- half, or as agent for another, or others shall sell, solicit, or take orders for the sale by retail for goods, wares or mer- chandise, to be supplicd or furnished by any person or firm, doing business out- side of the Sity, without having lirst obtained a license, and paid the fee therefor, set out in the schedule to this AW. 17. Each and every person, persons or body corporate, using .or following the several trades, occupations, professions, or business set forth in the Schedule hereunto annexed, and _particularly-de- scribed therein, shall take out periodical license for such period as in said Schedule set forth, paying there- tor, such periodical sams as is therein specified, which said sum shall in all cases be paid in advance, as specified in this by-law. 4. ‘Any person or persons, who shall carry on, use, practice or exercise any trade, it it busines: whether such tables are used or not, without having a license and paid the fee.therefor, set out in the scnedule to this by-law. 18. No person shall exhibit a public cireus or menagerie within the city for hire or profit, directly, or indirectly without-having obtained a_ license so to do, and paid the fee therefor set out in the Schedule to this by-law. 19.
