This week the Rossland retirees counted 58 of their members on the tee for the Tuesday morning round. The competition was low net for which we awarded three balls. Bill Vickers was low man on the totem pole with a 31, Doug Johnson counted 32, and Harold Dixon 33. In the bingo, bango, bongo it was Don Krug with a 13 total that took the prize. Don also had a 31 for the low net but our policy of one ball per player excluded him from thal A visitor, Norm Clark of Leader, Saskatchewan won closest to the pin on #3 with his tee shot winding up three feet from the pin. Barney Boyczuk was the long putter on #9 as he sank one from ten feet. On the two hidden holes, high on #3 was won by Carl Osing with a seven, while low on #8 was won by Percy Hamilton, who had a very nice four to beat out some others in a draw. Next week's effort will have a hidden mastermind and you will know about who it will be by attending next Tuesday. Whoever it is will have some surprises no doubt. See you all there! A former Rosslander, now operating out of Oshawa, Ont. was visiting in the Legion in Rossland last Monday. Insurance salesman extraordinaire, Len Camazzi, is in the area and certainly enjoyed his visit with us. A super skier and all-round good athlete, Len looks to be in tiptop condition. Pat Martin is his host while he is in the area. Good to see you, Len! This is the time of the year when we get former Rosslanders and many otl'lers in town to visit relations or former acquaintances in the area. Looking ahead to August, we have the Inter- Zone Golf Tourney at Creston on tap for Saturday, August 9. Barney Boyczuk was telling me the story today, so far nothing has been done to make arrangements for a bus to take a bunch of us over for that event. The idea was that we could canvass Trail, Castlegar and Rossland as to how many from those points would be going and if we get a big enough bus we could possibly pick some Beaver Valley and Salmo golfers on our way over there. It would sure make a nice trip and an easy one for guys who would otherwise have to drive. So you who want to go, how about letting the organizers know by phoning in to the Legion branches to say you would like to go. Only two weeks left before the date of the tourney. Our good weather of the last week is certainly very welcome. All that rain and cool weather was getting a lot of people down. The gardens around town are beginning to show the effect of the welcome change. Most of the vegetables are beginning to show some vitality which so far has been slow in coming to the fore. Huckleberry hunters are reporting varied results from their trips into the area's bush country. Some have shown signs of having been picked over, while others are not yet ripe. --- The British Open is over and the deserving winner, at even par was Australia's "Great White Shark" Greg Nonnan. Not one American was in the leaders and it's- ir long time ~ce that has happened. Of course along the Firth of Clyde is a real toughie, especially in the awful weather they had. And with that it's time to say, 'Til next time, then!
