You will find this fascinating story quite near the beginning of the Bible (the eighth book to be exact). It is a story of courage and faith, of suffering and Personal triumph. Ruth is a Moabite girl_who,-of course, in her younger years, has no idea of who will one day be her mother-in-law. But as she begins to grow toward Womanhood, she becomes acquainted with a Jewish family that had moved to Moab from Bethlehem in Judea. (This family had come eastward the 100 miles or so to escape the drought and famine that was plaguing Judea at that time.) Naomi is the name of the mother. in this Jewish family. —She—and—her husband and two sons came to Moab to escape the drought and famine. It was difficultenough, coming into a Strange land like this, a land with dif- ferent customs and different ideas of God, but the-first-major tragedy that ‘befell Nadmi_and—hertwo-sons-was when Elimilech, the husband and father, died. Since the famine still persisted in Judea, Naomi had little Weavers exhibit work The regular monthly mecting of the Selkirk Weavers and Spinners Guild was held April 11 inthe upper room o E gar Rail Station. Fifteen members were present. Following show and tell, the business meeting was called to order. It-was reported that the exhibit of weaving had been put up at the Langham Gallary in Kaslo and the same show would be displayed at the Provincial recreation conference, and. that the guild would donate a set of placemats to be used as a door prize. The guild has been invited to enter a team in the Salmon-Arm Sheep-to- Shawl contest, to be held on Sept. 15 There is to be a workshop ta “Anita Meyer in Chilliwack May 17 to 19. The next meeting will be a potluck lunch at the home of Ruby Marsh on May 16 at which time a Kaffe Fassett video will be shown. The guild has vacated the Castlegar Rail Station and is currently looking for a new home. Meanwhile, the Yarn Shop, tibrary and equipment are being housed in the homes of various members. ° Curtains are finished and six panels NOW THIS IS FUN... The conference was held in Langley The growing participation of B.C Native peoples in Pentecostal chur. ches was reflected in a move to in- volve a director of Native ministries at the provincial executive level of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada, a church news release says. The conference also addressed its role in the changing face of church life in British Columbia. The decline of the Charismatic Movement was seen to be offset by a growing interest in spirituality in society at large, the release says. The Rev. Bill Griffin of Toronto challenged Pentecostals to find a new relevance for evangelism, Particularly among young Canadians and new Canadians. In spite of some indications of a slowed growth rate in the Pentecostat churches, the British Columbia con- ference recognized the ordination of a ~ high number of new clergy this year, the release says 7 Planning a Wedding? Imagine Naomi's ony and bewilderment, and the strain this would be on her faith in God. She struggled With bitterness for a time, but never gave up her faith in God, Having heard that the famine was Naomi still insisted that it would be best if the young women remained in Moab. Orpah finally agreed and made preparations to return to her former home. But Ruth not only ad- mired her mother-in-law greatly, but had come to a strong confidence in Naomi’s God, as being the one true God, maker of heaven and earth, and So she uttered the following words that have become almost immort ‘Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay.
