I am writing this open letter as: (a) an appeal to all the people of the Kootenays and to all of B.C. (b) to commemorate Canada Day, 1993. T want to be a proud Canadian and I want it to be known that I am ashamed, saddened and helpless while the last of the centuries’ old growth forests are being di yed. The most di iz news came yesterday when two youngsters, ages 11 and 12, were arrest- ed and taken to jail for picketing and disobeying the injunction for forbidding picketing. “O Canada,,...Glorious and Free!??”" 4 The Castlegay Sun Wednesday, July 28, 1993 Arrest of picketers Lenders giving with o taking with the other To the Editor: Two Canadian soldiers have been wounded in Bosnia-Herce govinia, and will be coming soon. Here is how they work These organizations loan huge sums of money to strug- gling third world nations mostly thus forcing borrowers to con centrate on export, agric alters and natural resources Their peasants and tribal peo ples become low wage workers, their way of life destroyed and their land often confiscated for monoculture crops Crushed by urban poverty, their subsequent revolt crushed by weapons furnished by lend- ing countries, their health and hope gone, their children become victims of diseases like Have we no shame? Surely this is a case of “child abuse” if there ever were one die each day from hunger and preventable diseases around the world.
