This is the clue: travel. Moses travelled in the wil- derness to find the promised land, Marco Polo went east to discover the riches of China, and Columbus went west across the Atlantic for the same reason but discovered America. All ages have seemed to - embrace travel and with every journey there was a search for something more or better. There was reason and purpose. Today travel is fast and easy but it is all just back and ~ forth from one place to another. Often, the only search is for one’s luggage. But also, down through the ages, there has always been recognized another journey and another search — the journey through life and a search to fulfil that life. John Bunyan wrote of this journey and this search 300 years ago in his book, The Pilgrim's Progress. It had all begun 1678 years before when Mary and Joseph journeyed from Nazareth to Bethlehem. “And she brought forth her ‘first-born son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there no room for them in the in Shepherds came down from the hills to worship Him and wise men travelling from the east came to search out the promised King. He, whom they had travel- led and searched for, "increased “in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and Man,” and He, who was God's gift to all peoples, proclaimed “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me,” and “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abun- dantly.” i For a joyous Christmas may you search out the scrip- tures for the above quotes in the chapters‘of Luke 2 and John 10 and 14, and may you travel the Jesus way through 1979.
