On Monday I went to the Little League park and watched the game between Trail and Sherbrooke, Que. During the first few innings Quebec hung tough but in the top of the third inning, Andy's boys found the hitting they missed in the first game against the Maritimes and pushed over eleven runs. Then added more in the fourth before Quebec got anything going. The game ended on that note and the Trail boys came away with a big victory. I had to leave after that one. I heard that they were really missing those bats in the other game but Monday everybody wanted a part of the action and got it. I had golf Tuesday, so couldn't attend any games but some Branch No. 14 members are working at the park on Wednesday, so we should see lots of ball then. I really enjoyed the good umpiring and the way the pre-game warmups were handled. Each team knows how much time they have and it is kept strictly to that amount of time. It's always been a well-organized and handled tournament and this time it's going to be no different. I'm looking forward to the rest of it and hope it will follow its present line. Good ball! Tuesday's Retirees Day was a beautiful day for golf and 55 of the faithful were on hand to enjoy it at the upper course. It began at 7 a.m. and I was back home shortly after noon. Barney Boychuk and I were on the desk and everything moved along smoothly. Barney picked it up right away. Pretty good as it was his first time on the job. When we were finished he says, "I think I can do that without too much trouble next time." We played out our old standby's, Low Gross, Low Net, Hidden Holes, High and Low, and longest putt on no. 9 and closest to the pin on no. 5. And the winners were: low net, Vic Bordin, 31; low gross, Jim Scott, 41; in hidden hole low, no. 4 we had lots of ties and Joe Zanier won it in a draw, hidden high was on no. 8 and here too we had ties and again a draw, the winner was G. Wilby. Closest to the pin on no. 5 was Willie Scott who rolled his tee shot up about seven or eight feet from the pin. Reg White won the long putt on no. 9 with about a 10-footer. Thank you gentlemen, hope to see you again next Tuesday when our old friend Joe Bielli expects to be available and we shall have to find him a partner. If you will be available phone Joe or give me a call. Thanks again! In last week's column I had an item about a roast that the Rossland Eagles had planned for the Lions Park in Rossland, now apparently the Lions have changed their mind about letting the Eagles have use of the park. Some word was circulating th! other day that there were some 300 bikers going to be in for the bash. This is apparently false! It made the Eagles switch to the Birchbank grounds and as I understand now the times quoted previously are still correct. Noon to dark that night. You're still welcome! Every day brings us closer to Golden City Days. We hope you who read this will all take a trip up the hill to our fair city and give yourselves a taste of our Rossland hospitality. And with that I hope that I shall be talking to you all again in the near future. Until then, I'll say, bye for now. So, 'til next time, then!
