“double prime time” schedule.
In a drastic overhaul of its
programming, CBC now has
what it calls “family prime
time” from 7 to 9 p.m. and
“adult prime” from 10 p.m. to
midnight. The two are sepa-
rated by the network’s fresh
flagship news program, “CBC

10 p.m. The newscast, which
debuts Monday, Nov. 2, re-
places “The National” and
“The Journal,” which aired
back-to-back on weeknights
for more than 10 years.

In a dramatic announce-
ment last spring, CBC an-
nounced it would mothball the
two news programs in what
was seen as a cost-cutting
measure. “The National” and
“The Journal” operated inde-
pendently of each other with
separate crews, news staffs
and technicians. The transi-

Nov. 3, will mark the debut of
“Emilie,” an English-language
version of the acclaimed CBC
French series “Les Filles des
Caleb.” On Tuesdays, the late
schedule includes “Bangkok
Hilton,” a six-part Australian
series starring Nicole Kid-
man. A note to classic-movie
buffs: CBC airs-“Citizen Kane”

Oscar Peterson. “In the Key of
