But we're much happier here, doing what we want to do. Both are excited about their new venture, and it shows imme- diately in the way they treat their customers. With Edie’s experi ence and talent as a hairdresser the couple never doubted the suc- cess of their shop. “Build it and they will come,” has been their motto from the outset “We pride ourselves on excel- lent service, and the experience we have to take care of customers the way they want ‘to be taken care of,” Bruce said. Hair-4-U carries a prestigious line of hair-care products, namely Rusk and the Advance Group. In fact, the lines could be called the Cadillac of haircare products “For perms and colors we also use only top quality products said Edie, who is equally proud of the small crafted gift items uch as woodworking and scent ed candles that the shop sells We're hearing great feedback on our prices. They are certainly competitive there with what's out When entering the business Haur-4-U, there is a tranquility about the shop that provides a welcome relief from the pains of everyday life. It could be from the scented candles, or it could be from the clean and fresh surroundings, but more than likely its the Christian atti tude that shines through in both Edie and Bruce We're not in this to make all the money in the world, We just want to make an honest living, and serve our clients. Some times people come in and see us just because they need a hug," said Edie with a laugh, “It’s wonderful Hair-4-U, which by the way, 1s a smoke-free shop, is open six days a week, and the hours are highly flexible. “If you can't make a hair appointment during regular office hours than that's not a problem, we're very accom modating.” Bruce and Edie will be holding a grand opening for Hair-4-U and the gift’ shop above, called The Upper Room, November 25-27 They invite everyone to stop in and say hello, look around and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, or one of the many baked goodies that will be on hand. The human soul silently, and sometimes not so silently, resists change and decay and finally death Recently I received an exceedingly appreciated letter from Tanya whom I have not seen since she was but a very small but most attractive lit- tle girl I was interested to hear through you of her hopes to visit Chile, but am sorry she is suffer- ing from arthritis. With this note come my warmest greetings and love to all branches of your respective family trees and to all our mutual friends. This morning I rose at 6 am., almost on the dot, fed our menagerie, prepared breakfast, shaved, drank my. liter of water which is a “must” before break- fast and before lunch, helped Gonzalo and Gerardo tie their new highschool ties, admired their general presentation in their new uniforms, saw them off to school, earlier read and prayed with them, made my bed, showered and made myself respectable for the public, did three washing machine loads of dirty clothes, and then another of my foster sons turned up at 8 a.m. to help me continue fixing up the house and prepare a chicken dinner later enjoyed by seven of us Shortly before noon a whole new contingent of foster sons and daughters and grandchildren turned up. I quickly prepared sandwiches and fruit juice for the eight of them as there was not enough dinner to go around. I forgot to mention a blind foster son and his friend who came almost first thing in the morning to check the ads for apartments, as like so many oth- ers they are desperately in need of a roof over their heads. All that has hap- pened may be preparing me for a bigger ministry than ever. On the brighter side...three days ago friends paid for my echo-electro cardiogram. The cardiologist maneuvered and examined and diagnosed and was pleasantly surprised, saying that my heart was amazingly strong considering all that it had been through, and that my main trouble was emotional. (What's new?) Instead of lying low and avoiding exercise (he said) I should get out and walk more, ete. etc I have dreams of going to the coast, but the ride over the “paramo” or mountain rise, that surrounds Quito, followed by the necessary adjustment to sea- level living just about takes my breath away I’m trying to sell as many of my museum treasures as possi- ble in order to pay next month's rent, keep the boys in school, buy the necessary heart medica- tion and the minimum amount of food. For years I’ve been the “Great White Father” Now I am but a fellow human being experiencing problems similar to those suffered by 99.9% of the population, and am just beginning to discover what a coward I really am and how very small is the faith I've pro fessed for so long God is answering my prayers of many, many years, that I thight really and genuinely know Him and His Son Jesus Christ. Had I know that the pro cess would have been so painful I might never have prayed as I did.
