At a public meeting held at Deer Park on June 4, 1949, the following names — Patrick Romaine, C. A. Crockett, and Albert A. Phelps - were elected by unanimous vote to represent the citi-. zens of Deer Park in all matters con- cerning the maintenance and develop- ment of steamer service and transporta- tion on the Arrow Lakes. : By unanimous vote the residents of Deer Park expressed their opposition to proposals by the C.P.R- to abandon the Arrow Lakes service by turning the same over to other interests who propose to operate a limited service on the Upper and Lower Lakes and to discontinue ser- vice between Needles and Nakusp. . The guest speaker for the evening, Mro Jo Dalziel, was introduced by the Regent. Mr. Dalziel spoke on the aims and functions of the KeRoG.-'s and reported that $5,000 had been dis- tributed in this district in the past three years. He said that 20% of their funds were given to National Charities amounting to $1675. They had financed local sports and given grants to li-~ bpraries and other worthy projects. Their welfare work was now being hand- led by the I.0.DeE. through a grant. for this purpose. Mrse De. Magee moved a vote of thanks to the speaker for his interesting remarks. The Regent continued her report of the Provincial Convention, giving highlights of the meetings and refer- ring to the Junior Ohapters' delegates who attended.
