Sometime in’ the past several hundred years: scien- tists hung the Latin name Homo Sapiens on the human race, At this New Year's reso- lution’ time, I would like to " suggest that the scientists missed a couple of bets in this naming process, Or perhaps they just didn’t go far enough and identify all the sub-species of the genus Homo, For instance, there's a sub- species running around which should be tabbed Homo Mes- siens, The “Mess” in this case is pronounced as in litler, They teave their calling cards of broken beer bottles, empty beer and pop cans, old tires, dead flashlight batteries, tan- gles of old fishing line, salmon egg bottles and a thousand other things along. highways, campgrounds, boat launch areas, you name it. ‘These are nearly always left close to garbagé or litter barrels, " We have other sub-species such as Homo Vandalions, which needs litle explanation. sub group is really “sub.” ks up plumbing in rest rooms, chops up picnic tables, and generally ruins something wherever it goes, Then there's Homo Ho- giens, who take more fish or game than the law allows, However, the first sub- species, Homo Messien one I would like to basis of a New Yeai y of us who disclaim re tionship with Homo Me: should vow to leave each lake, river, beach or campground a little cleaner than we found it. Litter or garbage cans are everywhere and it takes almost no time to pick up a can, a bottle or other detritus and drop it in the can along with our own garbage, * © 8 If you're a hunter who wants lo get in some off-season action, predator calling offers excitement and gives you # chance to learn a Jot more about the outdoors and nature's amaz- ing creatures. Coyoles, foxes and other animals that live by killing are among the most wary of ani- mals, Yet they can be fooled by a good caller who knows how to use one of the many calls on the market which imitate such things as a wounded rabbit. Some people like predator calling so much they feel that . it’s the main hunting season, not just a fill-in. woot eteta ate ee A Op mw a eee CASTLEGAR NEWS, Thursday, January 4, 1979 WHEN TO TAKE ANOTHER SHOT Sone pucks wiich APPEAR TO WAVE BREN HIT HARD, WiKL SUDDENLY TAKE To THE AIR, AHO FLY AWAY.
