Coach Gord Gibson said he was
very pleased with the teams
showing

“You have to realize that these
skiers are competing against some
of the best skiers in B.C. Although

their placings may seem low, their
times are very close to that of the
winners,” said Gibson.

The 7-Up Cup is a series of seven
cross-country ski races held
throughout the province. Points are
awarded for each placing towards
an aggregate champion at the end of
the series.

Two of the races will be held in
Castlegar on Jan. 2425. The next
race for the Castlegar team will be
Jan. 4 in Rossland

Rebels win two
weekend games

Castlegar Rebels continued to hold on to their overall
lead in the Kootenay International Hockey League over the
weekend as they soundly defeated both Trail and Beaver
Valley.

On Saturday the Rebels smoked the Jr. Smoke Eaters
of Trail 8-5 at the Community Complex

Dave Terhune and Rod Horkoff led the way for the
Rebels with two goals each, all four coming in the second
period.

Adrain Markin and Dean Sjodin each notched a goal in
the first period while Rod Horkoff, and Walter Sheloff each
added goals in the second period. Dane Jackson managed
one in the third

Rick Veins and Terhune came up big in the assists
department by helping out on three goals. Andrew Zibin
managed two while singles went to Barcy Martini, Jackson,
Horkoff, Markin, Sjodin and Sheloff.

Trail scored two goals each in the first and second
periods while they managed a single in the third

The game turned out to be a rough one with a total of 76
minutes in penalties being handed out, with the Rebels
spending most of the time in the box as they racked up 41

minutes to Trail’s 35. However, a Trail player was handed a
game misconduct.
On Friday night at the Community Complex, the Rebels
skated cireles around Beaver Valley by thumpging them 10-1
with Dane Jackson doing most of the damage for the Rebels
by scoring a hattrick. Other goals came from Viens and
Terhune with two apiece, while singles went out to Martini,
Voykin and Sjodin.

Viens, Horkoff, Sjodin and Sheloff each came up with
assists while singles went to Jackson and Martini.

With 42 points the Rebels not only lead the league's
western division but also the entire Behind
Castlegar in the west are Rossland with 22 points, Trail with
14 and then Beaver Valley who have yet to win a game.

In the east it is Spokane with 36 points followed by a
tight race for second between Cranbrook with 34 and
Columbia Valley with 32, although Columbia Valley has a
game in hand. In last spot is Kimberley with eight points.

In upcoming games this week, Castlegar travels to
Rossland Friday night and then on Saturday the Rebels are
at home to take on Spokane at 8 p.m. at the Community
Complex.

Knights by picking up a hattrick while

each got two. Singles went to Antig
nani and Martin Sander.

For Woodland Park Shell it was
Bruno Tassone leading the way with
two goals while singles went to Terry
Jacobsen, Doug Makortoff, Jim Nazar

Team BC chooses
Rebel players

Three Castlegar Rebels have been
invited to play for Team BC in the
Canada Winter G

Dave Terhune, Dane Jackson and
Adrian Markin will be a part of the
Team BC squad when they travel to
Nova Scotia in February to compete in
the winter games

And another two Rebels, Darcy
Martini and Steve Voykin, are being
considered for the team

Team BC is made up of players from
junior B teams across the province, and
training camp will be held in Trail
beginning Dec. 27

An exhibition game will also be
played that day between Team BC and
the Trail All-Stars.

On Dec. 29 Team BC travels to
Castlegar to take on the Rebels at 8
p.m. at the Community Complex

On Dec. 30 Team BC will face off
against the Colts in Cranbrook

Flames manage win

CALGARY (CP) — Al MacInnis
scored a goal and added four assists as
the Calgary Flames stormed back from
a 3-0 deficit to defeat the Detroit Red
Wings 8-3 in a National Hockey League
game Tuesday.

MacInnis, a fourth-year defenceman,
took over the Flames’ scoring lead with
his five-point performance. He now has
seven goals and 25 assists for 32 points
in 32 games.

second period, MacInnis scored the

Rossland will be the site of the 1987
Export A Series for the national
women’s alpine ski championships, to
be held Feb. 18-26. Last year Rossland
hosted the men's Export A alpine
series.

Because the upcoming women’s ser
ies will be held just 10 days after the
world alpine series championships in
Crans-M@ntana, Switzerland, it is pos
sible world title holders like Laurie
Graham and Liisa Savijarvi will be on
hand in Rossland.

finished third overall last year in the
World Cup downhill standings while
Savijarvi, also of Ontario, finished
third overall in World Super G stand
ings and sixth in downhill competition
