When God in His love became man that first Christmas oniy the Angels knew of the greatness of that day. The innkeeper who refused His Mother, did not know the wonder of the event which was to take place in his stable. How that Babe has effected history these past nine- At The Spirit of Christmas : Together with the author of teen ‘hundred and fifty years. His teachings are the basis of most of the GOOD things of our way of life. The Yemocracy, our freedoms, our social security, our hopsitals, the cravings of the common man all over the world for peace, and many other things all stem from His birth has changed the world and ‘would change: it still more for good if His followers cooperate more, Better still, His Love and Power have brought help, forgiveness, Him, health and spiritual power to untold millions. That first Christmas day is the most important day in the history of our world; it.has had more effect for good to the human race then any other. Besides. all this, God; the great Creator took upon Him the form of a Man that He might show His love. By so doing He made holy the human body and by His life, showed to what height Man’s character could ascend. Alas! Today we remember, that great day by so many acts of and awful ‘y an roads. Men abuse their bodies, made sacred ‘by God.. We remember Christmas in an orgy of advertising inciting us to buy all kinds of luxuries or by sending cards that have" no reference to the great event. Let us, this Christmas, take, time to consider the real meaning of this happy day. The best*place to consider this - is in our Church, The best place to practice the real Christ- mas spirit of leve and | moderatiqn in our- home is among the family. So will our Christmas be‘a happy: one." I have been dering what is h ing t Christmas. Not only are many of our Christmas cards as Christ. massy as our funny papers,. but there appears to be a tendency to regard them as an end in them- selves, , The number of Christmas cards is often material evidence of our degree of poularity or social ‘pro- minence. Perhaps’ they are to some extent but it seems to inc that this is a groping at the sub- stance and losing the spirit, a sad- ly misplaced emphasis, _ In the second place there is the giving of gifts, which commemo- rates the giving of the gifts by the Magi to the Christ Child. They were given freely and wi'h no thought of*favors in return. Nor were they given to the par- ents but to the Child, while Sos eph and Mary worshipped. Today in many parts of the world this.custom is continued — the children are given gifts while the elders attend church service. The custom has been extended to one’s postman and other such personnel but there again, there is no thought of something in return. On this continent however, the giving or rather the exchange of gifts has sometimes reached pro- portions. which : could make Oriental blink and turn Castlegar Sash & Door PHONE 3211 Free Estimates From all of us ., to all of you— a Merry Holiday brim with j joys of < the Yuletide.: “WINDOWS — DOORS — SASH CABINET MAKING owes bi lltngnatll Season, filled to the + . cy a light shade of green, Immediate les, near relatives, not-so- near relatives, friends and eyen acquaintances, gradually become a part of this vast vortex of “gift- ing.” Most-:of. us have. been well hammered with the Biblical maxim, “It is more blessed’ to give than to-receive,” and if we left it at the first half, it wouldn't be too bad..
