Anger. Isn't it bad? Doesn't it cause bad things to happen? Hasn't the church taught for years “be angry and sin not” Yet how many sermons have you heard on being angry? I have been in church for over 40. years yet I can't recall one. What I do remember is the guilt I carried for years because I was angry. How about you? I have learned the hard way that anger is not bad. It just is. We need the whole spec trum of emo- tions in our lives from joy, happi ness to sad ness and anger. If we shut down those we see as negative we shut down the ability to fully experience the others, Our emotional “thermo- stat” is broken. Anger is an emotional energy. If we never got angry we would. never make changes. Think about the last time you HORSE CLUB FORMED got mad. You said, “No more This is it, I'm not going to take it any more.” You changed something Anger protects us; it warns us that something is wrong. Anger is like energy. It cannot be destroyed, but it can be stored or its form changed. Some of the ways in which anger is expressed are camou- flaged. Pleasers get angry. Mar- tyrs are angry. Silent people are often angry. Gooey, sweet people are angry. Critical people are angry. The passive-aggressive person is angry. The anger has to go some- where. In my next column I will talk about how the anger comes out and who it hurts. I believe we express our anger in different ways.
