New reading matter makes your advertisement attractive. We will gladly change your ‘‘ad” every issue if copy is presented betore 10 a, m. THE DAY OF THANKS. Thursday next has been desig- nated as a day of thanks through- out the dominion, and the reading of the proclamation is a forcible re- minder of the bounty and prosperity which has marked the progress of | , this great union since the confedera- tion act of 1867. Especially must it appeal to those of us who have chosen to separate ourselves from the conventional life of the east, and have cast our lot amid the bustle and excitement of a new and grow- ing province. The contrast is ap- parent to all, because in the settled communities each man is but a unit traveling in the time-worn rut and accepting conditions as they exist. The fascination and excitement of- fered by new fields has induced an immigration imbued with the ‘life, activity, energy, ambition and en- terprise which had been hidden in the almost dormant natures of those who were for a time content with the old routine. They came''to British Columbia in reality to create rew conditions, and they came, in Most instances, not because they made such a howling success in théir old fields of labor, but to take advantage of the opportunities of- fered by a new country. All of us know the extent of those opportun- ities and our daily efforts are di- rected in that line which will | ulti- mately bring the satisfaction of suc- cess. © Nature’s gift to this section has been an unbounded wealth of min- | ™ eral, and the result attending the development of those resources - is illustrated by the thriving and mag- nificent city of Rossland, in which ‘business men have prospered and the wage earner enjoys a condition of contentment which only plenty Ts of labor and a healthy wage scale can create. Therefore, while. ..the Proclamation of thanksgiving may |} be accepted in the spirit of formal- ity, the day should not be permitted to pass without each individual giv- Ameri mind of some prejudice which had been entertained against Great Britain. It secured for Great Britain a fairer judgment than would have been awarded had the course of Great Britain been such as to confirm rather than to remove these Prejudices. But that friendly atti- tude cannot greatly influence the American conscience. Moral sup- port will go where justice points. NOTICE, In the Matter of M.S. Logan, Insolvent.
