AS I SEE IT WITH HARRY PEPPER AS I SEE IT WITH HARRY PEPPER Gathering news for this column is quite a chancy business. Sometimes one has to really go out and look for it and again there are times like Monday evening, when it comes looking for you. Thinking back to the weekend, 1 didn't really have a clue what 1 was going to write about this week but a soccer meeting was called for Monday night, Little League Ball opened its schedule down at the Cook Ave. diamond and I was hoping coach Lyle McDonald might have something new on his Junior Girls ball team. In other words I was just hoping for something to break, and believe me, it did. Five lady bowlers have just won the West Kootenay Inter City Bowling Tourney and are Jao)cing for someone to tell the world about it. And you have what is known as an irresistable force, if you've never listened to five exuberant girls all talking at the same time - believe me you've missed something. Personally, I would like to congratulate the club for a job well done and wish them as good or better season in '72 . Aside from additions to theLittle League rosters because of late entries, Saturday's opener will go on as scheduled with four 3-inning games and the parade of players, coaches etc. through town which will precede the games. Additional registrations have added a couple of players to each roster and it looks like a keenly-contested season may be in the offing. One thing in favour of a good season is the goodly number of volunteers that will be available for extra jobs around the League. I have been contacted by a few people who are i_nt_erested, and this looks prom1srng. The quest goes on for a coach for some 15 youngsters who have registered to play in th e Senior Babe Ruth section of the local Minor Ball, but two or three lines are out and may result in some satisfaction. Practices to be held this week may point up some pretty good looking players in this group, and they could make some energetic young fellows look pretty good in their first year of coa ching in this age group. Newly-elected coach of the Senior Capilanos, a knowledgeable young man who I predicted you ball fans would have no trouble recognizing , Lloyd McLellan, has started the Caps on drills already . Practices were held Sunday in Trail and Tuesday night at Jubilee . Lloyd tells me that most faces on the team will be familiar this year . Some of them may have bee!} in different uniforms the last~time you saw them, but will definitely be an asset to the Joral team . One of the new recruits will be young Joe Caron who has been playing for Lou DeRosa's high school team in Trail . Lloyd .
