apne hn LOTTE ST CASTLEGAR NEWS, Thursday, January 20,1977 * Pulpit ie Pew By Pastor Donald W. Reed Last evening } following our mid- week Bible Study hour, I watched the CBC program called, “Krazy”, I had never viewed it before and frankly, I gnever want to view it again. *- My reaction: throughout was one of uninterrupted out- + rage. I did not know our public television corporation had sunk so low. There was not one wholesome or redeeming qual- ity about the entire 30-minute production. It never ceases to amaze me that we have such compre- hensive drug and food legisla- tion regulating what can be distributed for ingestion into our bodies, but apparently no legislation'any longer regulates what can be disseminated for ingestion into our minds, As far as I am concerned, poison is poison, whether intended for Physical or mental consump- tion. THE CHURCH BELL News and Views REGIONAL ECUMENICAL PARISH from We have elaborate build- ing codes; we have carefully controlled clectrical standards; we have rigid. regulations af- fecting such things a8 septic lanks and disposal areas. I know; I'm in the midat of. building a house! Are there no rules of decency, no codes of ethics that . govern what a public communt- cation medium can transmit into our living rooms? Suppose our local pulp mill started to siphon its effluent into our water system? Sup- vice neatly packaged our refuse with a release system that spilled it all over the living room rug at 10:30 p.m. on a Wednesday evening? Parish Committee Meeting. At a recent meeting of St. David's Anglican Parish Com- mittee, held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Booth, plans were finalized for several sig- nificant happenings in the near future. The first of these will be the service of Induction for the Rev. Desmond Carroll to be conducted by The Right Rev. Fraser R, Berry, Bishop of Kootenay Diocese, at St. Dav- id’s Jan. 30 at the regular Sunday morning service. This will be followed by an hour of fellowship. + That evening an Area Ministry Service of Induction for the Rev. David McKenzie of Rossland will be held at St. Andrew's church in Rossland, A cordial invitation to attend this service is extended to all. The annual Anglican Par- - ish meeting will be held in the Undercroft on the evening of Feb. 3, when annual reports will be heard, election of church officers held, and matters of parish intereat discussed. On Feb. 13 Bishop Snow- den of the Cariboo Diocese will preach at the regular Sunday morning service. In order to complete the results of the recent parish canvas, it would be appreciated if any outstanding cards were returned to the envelope secre- tary as soon as possible. ACW Meeting The January meeting of St. David's Anglican Church Wo- men was a very welkattended one. President Mrs. J. Donnan opened the meeting with pray- : ers and welcolmed visitor Mrs. Isobel Fietz. . Routine reports showed - the affairs of the group are in good shape. Several thank-you notes from recipients of Christ- mas remembrances were read; also notes of appreciation from friends who had been ill. Members were remindéd of the ACW Kootenay Bound- ary Area meeting to be held in Castlegar in April. : Co-chairman of the Thrift Shop, Mrs. J. F. Killough, reported briefly on the recent move to the new Columbia Ave. location, and said that a busi- ness meeting of the ‘workers would be held tomorrow morn- ing in the Undereroft. She emphasized again the friendly co-operation enjoyed with the United Church Women. Annual reports were read by president Mrs. Donnan and treasurer Mrs, P. Robinson, which detailed the various projects undertaken during the past year. The annual financial report of the Thrift Shop by its T see very little difference between either of those prepos- terous suggestions and what our tax-supported CBC dumped in my living room that night. Almost every moral aber- ration imaginable was crowded into the 80-minute slot—homo- sexuality, -adultery, infidelity, exhibitionism, transvestism, vulgarity, gross indecency. What was not implicitly o ex- plicitly unseemly was flagrant- ly crude and uncouth. There was not the least semblance of decency or dignity at any point treasurer Mrs. pro- vided proof of the benefits accrued from the operation of the shop. Mrs, K. Johnson proposed a vote of thanks to the president and her executive, saying that much good work had been accomplished during 1976, and this was heartily agreed to by all present. Mrs. J. Killough took the chair to preside over the election of officers for 1977, and by acclamation the entire ex- ecutive was returned to office, with the proviso that in future all terms of office be limited to two years. St, David's ACW executive for this year consists of presi- dent, Mrs. Donnan; vice-] presi- dent, Mrs. K. Bate; Secretary, Mrs. M. Kennedy; treasurer, Mrs. P. Robinson; with cai ‘secretary, Mrs. G. Eldrie foster-child secretary, Mrs. M. Brandson; and publicity, Mrs. B. Hostetter. of the coarseness, dopravity—these were the whole. fabric, All in the name of comedy and enter- ‘ tainment. What a pathetic commen- tary on our contemporary cul- ture! How much lower can we sink? How sick can we get? Qutrage? Yes, I felt it deeply. But also pity—for the . writers.and producers and for “the countless thousands who crave and relish such obscen- ilies. And shame—shame that I belong to a race of men that is capable of such degredation. lam reminded that it was just such a culture of which these lines are recorded in the Bible: “Then God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every 4. cdmagins if the. thoughts of. as only. evil continu- a ‘repented the Lord that He had made man in the earth and it grieved Him at His heart” (Genesis 6:5, 6). ! church directory ST.
