She was a poet, orator, calligrapher, librarian, gardener and mentor. She is survived by her husband Gus; daughter Gail; sons David and Ken; and 12 grandchildren, At Betty's request, there will be no funeral service. Maria was born Jan. 10, 1906, at Trevignino, Treviso, Italy.and came to Canada in 1958. She first settled in Natal, B.C., and came to. Castlegar in 1967. She was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening, cooking and sewing. She is survived by her daughter, Ernesta Graziotto of Castlegar; and four grandsons. Prayers will be recited Thursday at 7 p.m. at St. Rita’s Catholic Church and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. with Father Herman Engberink as celebrant.
