OurPEOPLE Chinese culture hits Castlegar Glen Freeman NEWS REPORTER Castlegar has scored a cultural coup of sorts. Dr. Li Ling Yan, renowned artist and President of the Yueyang Teachers College in Yueyang, China, was in town yesterday. Li took some time out of his schedule to meet with Stanley Humphries art teacher Donald Fyfe-Wilson and his students. But according to Mickey Kinakin, that was just a pleasant side-effect of Li’s visit. “Mr Li is in town because he is meeting with the leadership of Selkirk College,” Kinakin said. “Officially, Mr. Li is here to visit the college,” Kinakin said, adding that Li’s position in China is equivalent to a college principal. Kinakin, himself chairman of the School District No. 9 education committee and a member of the twinning program committee, said that Li was in town for another reason as well. “He is a representative of Castlegar’s twin city, YueYang, China, and he is here to make YueYang familiar among the citizens of Castlegar,” Kinakin said. “He’s come here to speak about YueYang and China in general. It’s a cultural exchange.” Kinakin added that Castlegar is still currently in the process of twinning with YueYang, an event which he
