Twenty-one boys made the trip'and teamed up with 28 of the Trailites for a morning of fun and games on the course. Trail came up with a new gimmick by instituting a hidden partner type of contest. When the dust had settled it was found that Ernie Carkner and ° Jack Barnes had finished on top. ¥ This was with a net of 71 for the two and they were’ closely followed by Bill Evans and Carlo Martin with 74 and Gino Pagnan and Bob McCum- ber with 76. i Most honest golfers for the day were Steve Melnyk and "Sandy Martin with a net that is ~ best left to the imagination. It was 8 real good morning and a number of the local boys grabbed the chance and played some extra holes. Once again I have the pleasant opportunity to con- gratulate those of our local juniors who did such a swell job of representing our fair city in the B.C. Junior Open. But for an unfortunate lapse in the final round we would have had the number one junior with us right here in Castlegar. © Robert Sherstobitoff led the pack right from the opening drive only to be tied with a youngster from Victoria at the final hole. This necessitated a playoff and it took three extra holes before the winner was declared. Real nice going, Robert, I just know that you are going to finish on top before too long. Danny Walker also gave a very good account of himself. At the ti es know Where he finished but Ido ~ know that he was in fifth spot going into the final 18, Robert's brother, Kenny failed ‘fo snake: wil ne dvabe be aving't ero account of himself in future competitions. Idon't know whether there were any others from Castlegar taking part but we have every reason to be proud of these particular boys and also the other juniors that go to make the future of. our golfing renown pretty secure. This will be 30 for a couple of weeks at least. When you read this-I should be some- where in Sunny (?) Alberta. I will be taking my clubs with me and ‘hope to have a couple of . games in the Edmonton. .
