CASTLE ;AR NEWS ‘SPORTS For Six Playoff Spots Seven Teams Battle The Kootenay Internation: al Senior Baseball League is about to embark on its second campaign with seven teams comprising the league's single division. The two-division concept of 1977 has been shelved and the single column alignment should provide a highly competitive * struggle as the seven teams battle for the six play-off vacancies. The Trail Hotelmen, the 1977 KISBL champions, will open defense of their crown and also inaugurate the 1978 sched- ule by visiting Republic for a - twin bill engagement against the Gold'n Sawdust on April 80th, Meanwhile, the New Den- ver-Silverton Twins, losers to’- the Hotelmen in last year's championship finals, will pene- trate the new year with a double-header appointment, al- so in Republic, the following week-end, The Colville Valley Lum- berjacks, the Castlegar Cubs and the Grand Forks Slag Dus- ters also welcome the 1978 season with double dip contests on May 7th. The Jacks will play host: to Castlegar while the Dusters will entertain the Hotelmen. The East Kootenay An- gels, meanwhile, initiate their ‘Association Hosts Coach, Umpire Clinic B.C. Amateur Softball As- sociation coaching and umpir- ing clinic will be hosted in Creston this Saturday, (10 a.m. Creston time) at Labatts Brew- ery. This is a master clinic, one of many: being held across Canada. A’$2 registration fee is schedule with two games in Republic on May 20th. Home and home two-game series will result in a balanced 24-game slate for each team, with the top two finishers receiving byes into the semi- finals: Week-ends will dominate the 1978 KISBL agenda with only Monday, May 22nd and. Tuesday, July 4th disrupting the Saturday-Sunday arrange- ment, The East Kootenay home schedule, meanwhile, is unique in that double-headers will be replaced with single encounters Saturday and Sunday against each of the Angels’ visitors. Nine innings will also be em- ployed with each singleton in Kimberley. All other action in the KISBL will follow the seven inning format, The play-off elimination round will witness No. meeting No. 6 and No. 4 meeting No. 5 in best of three mini series, No 1 and No. 2 will then host the respective best of five semi-final confrontations, with a best of five champion- ship series culminating the 1978 KISBL season in mid-August.
