Jackson has been clowning for
fifteen years. He describes his
method as European acting and
clowning combined with street
theatre, "although I studied ata
circus school in New York, a lot
of the tricks I do involve skills
I’ve developed on my own by

and cutlery, as well as five Ping-

school at Selkirk College the
recent loss of air traffic control at
the Castlegar airport tower is tan-
tamount to a loss of the tower,

*. Evans, who heads the Aviation
Department at the college, even
talks ‘as though the tower itself
ywas gone, :

: “Given the fact that we're
training students to be profession-
al pilots, we're still concerned
about the loss of the tower,” he
said in an interview Friday.

} The transition at the tower —
now staffed with seven flight ser-
vice specialists who replaced six
air traffic controllers in a move
by Transport Canada earlier this
winter — became of major con-
cem to the aviation department,
because of the implications it has
for pilot'training. Evans and his
department had opposed the clo-
sure, arguing that control tower
training was part of the training.

But Evans says the other major

problems yet,” he said, adding:
“But we certainly encountered
some of the problems we expected
to encounter.”

In the weeks since the transi-
don, no serious incidents occurred,
said Evans,.“nothing we could
point a finger at, but there were
minor things.”

« A-case in point was an incident
involving, one of the aviation
school’s aircraft and another small
training plane which, Evans said,
“stopped unexpectedly” on the
runway, causing the Selkirk avia-
tion aircraft up in the air “to go
* around from a lower attitude.”

Evans explained the other air-
craft was expected to touch and
immediately take off but was, for
some season, delayed on the run-
way.
