It was rumored on the street last evening that the deal had been consummated and that the price is $2,000,000. The wale includes the smelter, the C. & W., and the Trail-Robson branch and all rights, privileges; grants and fran- chises held by Mr. Heinze in the Koot- enays. A prominent broker of Rossland said toa representative of The REconD last night: “Ido not think it is trae that the deal has-been closed, although I know it ison. A conference haa been set for all parties concerned Monday, Nov. 21 in Toronto and I do not think the deal will be closed before that date. However Mr. Heinze is back there and the rumor may be true.” It has been known that the owners of the War Eagle woulu build or buy a smelter and this gives credence to the rumor. There is some talk sround town that the C. P. R. isbehind the scheme to pur- chase the Trail. smelter and C.& W. It is argued that this move will save the O.P. RB. the expense of building a smel- rat Robson just at this time. What lends a shade of truth to this report is the following despatch in'the Mail and Empire of Montreal: Aug. Heinse, of Trail, B. C., proprie- tor of the smelter- works at Trail, and owner of the line of railroad connecting _ that place with Neleon, is in the city. Mr. Heinze had an interview with Mr. T. G@. Shaughnessy, with reference to mining and smelting interests in Brit- Cc ‘tnd railway facilities in the mining country of thst province. It will be remembered that the miners. of the Trail district some time ago com- plained that Mr. Heinze’s charges for and for the iP ot the ore over his road were excessive, ind requested the C. P.R. to build a line of road paralleling that of Mr. Heinze between Trail and Nelson. This the'G.'P, R. declined for the time to do, but promised that if Mr. Heinze and the miners did not ultimately come to termps some a step might be taken. It is betis dt y will be reached. Another pointin confirming the re- port, that some kind of a deal is pending, is the fact that Chester Glasa the treas- urec-of the strelter, is to leave. Spokane and take up his permanent residence in New York city. It is not probable he would leave, it is‘said, unless he intend- ed resigning, orunless the smelter pass- ed into: other hands. a * Gopper, Marble and Onyx. Mrs. M.E.
