Terrence Herbert Bird was
found guilty of second-degree
murder Tuesday in the tor-
ture slaying of a man he'd
know for only a few hours
after meeting him in a beer
parlor.

The B.C. Supreme Court
jury deliberated for three
hours before finding that
Bird, 33, killed Lyle Edward
Randolph, 35, on March 31,
1984.

Kinnaird Junior Secondary School principal Bruce
Gerrand said extra-curricular activities suspended at his
school include both intramural and league sports, various
clubs, the availability of the library and vocational shi t
Ipnch hour and lunch-hour tutoring, as well as drama and
band practices.

But Gerrand said the activities have been merely

postponed.

“Nothing will be cancelled,” he said Tuesday. “They will
be postponed or put on hold. But nothing will be cancelled.”
Most spokesmen for elementary schools said the work
to rule action was affecting them less than the secondary
schools because they offer fewer extra-curricular activities.
However, teachers at Twin Rivers and Woodland Park
elementary schools said a number of sports and other

activities have been temporarily dropped
Jack Kinakin, head teacher at Pass Creek Elementary
School, said the work to rule action was having less of an

effect on students there then the loss of his noon-hour
supervisor.

Kinakin is the only teacher at the school, and the loss of
his supervisor means he has to spend an extra 45 minutes a
day — not including lunch hours — supervising children.

“I'm the most affected in the district because I'm the
only one here,” he said

Kinakin said he's not able to run extra-curricular
activities — such as his computer club — without the aid of
his supervisor.

“I'm spending time (supervising) when I could possibly
be working with kids,” said Kinakin
