Start by making a list of those who have to use the 0 Interiors Beautiful many new lighting treatments for baths on the market now, and il is wise to look into your ‘needs and have the merchants advise you. The latest problem in bathrooms has been the need >bathroom, their personal ~ grooming aids, the space re- quired to store these and how : often they are used. Even when > there is plenty of room within cupboards, behind mirrored cabinets and in drawers, or- nization is still required. s Small children usually ex- + perience the most difficulty in + using bathrooms and cleaning up afterwards. You may need to install a mirror on a vacant . wall or behind the door at the + child’s level and maybe even a ~ small shelf for their brush and comb. Remember, too, that a towel ring may have to be :. placed lower temporarily for the smaller children, too. +’ The illustrations at the left , Show two unique ideas for chelping children reach the taps hout having a stool con- stantly in the way. (These are taken trom the "Good Decorat- ing and Home Improvement” encyclopedia.) The first shows a built-in drawer which is upside down to serve as a platform which can be reversed for storage when the child is able lo reach the sink on his/her own. The second idea is a fold- out step under the sink which is out of sight when folded back in and behind closed doors. Keep these ideas in mind as an added feature when selling your home. There are many functional and decorative items on the market which make storing everyday items handy by being attached to walls or arranged ona counter top. These include toothbrush holders, soap dishes, fora plug-in for use with all the Kleenex and colton ball dis- electrical gadgets and groom- when the child is small and- pensers, etc. Consider the possibility of using baskets and trays for keeping miscellaneous items together and tidy. Two biggest clutter prob- lems in bathrooms are dirty clothes and towels. If you are building or have the available space, a laundry chute to the basement is a very practical and handy idea. The other alternative is to plan space for a hamper or basket. Even a new metal garbage can painted a bright accent color can be used as a clothes hamper for dirty clothes. If your bathroom is dull, with inadequate lighting for shaving or make-up, consider new lighting. or wall-to-wall mirror which will reflect more of your existing light. There are ing aids on the market. In many cases, the “shaving only” razor outlets are not adequate for blow dryers and curling irons; but because of local fire and safely regulations, you should check with an electrician before installing an electrical outlet in your bathroom. Most home improvement slores carry booklets on bath- room designs and if you have an outdated bathroom which is no longer functional or meeting the needs of your family, consult a decorator, or do some research on your own Before you make any ma- jor changes, look around the house or in your hardware store for convenience items | which may never have been used in a bathroom but if they fill the bill... use them!
