—We have the densest population of Ospreys in Canada
with 60 nesting pairs between the Canada-U.S, border
and the south end of Kootenay Lake.

—The Osprey feeds exclusively upon live fish.

—Male turtles are smaller than the females. They also
have longer fingernails than their female counterparts.
—The Setkirk Mountain Caribou herd consists of a mere
29 individuals.

—Male dragonflies are very territorial.

—Together the barn and cliff swallows have 178 nests
under the centre.

—Herons differ from cranes in that they fly with their
necks curved into an “s,” while cranes fly with their necks
straight out. ti
—Muskrats have a unique adaptation. They have teeth
that protrude ahead of their cheeks. Therefore, their lips
can close behind their incisors. This lets the muskrat
(beavers too), chew on stems and roots under water “with
their mouth closed”.

—Between 16-20 Big Horn Sheep from the U.S. have
moved into Stagleap Park.

—The Whistling Swan, after which the valley has been
named, is now called a Tundra Swan.

—Bats are unique among mammals because they can fly.
