Allen's column, this newspaper suggested at the time that Rev. Allen and his congregation should persue this matter further, that “év- erybody talks about the breakdown of mar- riages and the family group as one of the evils of modern society, but as with the weather, nobody seems to do anything about it” The Reelonat Ecumenical Parish is at- about it and is financially. + The program is a direct result of a Man Alive column which appeared in this news- paper in November of last year. In that col- umn, Rev. Terry Allen suggested the es- tablishment of a Family Life Agency here. He saw such an agency as a group which “could organize both preventative and reme- to be oe otateena on this most ambitious endeavor. Certainly the subject topics cho- sen for the five sessions promise lively and interesting panel and group discussions. With a modest enrollment fee of $2 a person (or $3 for a man and wife), interested per- sons could do far worse than spend the next five Thursday evenings at SHSS. Help the Physically Handicapped Two stories in last week's C: News made child where or ean reading (when taken together. On page three was a story about the Kootenay Society for Handicapped Children while on the front page an article appeared ut some interested local residents who ere attempting to establish a soe ie bed pel the physically handicapped in The story about the Kootenay Society bor Handicapped Children dealt with a pro- iposal by the Nelson chapter of that society ito change the name of the organization to jthe Kootenay Society for the Mentally Han- ldicapped. One of the reasons given by the ;Nelson branch for wanting the name change is that it is a society “for the welfare of men- tally handicapped people and when cam- ‘paigning for funds our present name is very jmisleading to the public.” In urging that the name of the so- ielety not be changed, the Castlegar branch treports that the objects of the society “are ‘clearly enunciated and refer to handicapped ‘persons. While our services relate primal It would appeer that there is a very serious misunderstanding here. One branch of the society feels that work with the han-|y, dicapped generally has either been over-| looked or forms such a small part of the society’s activities that a name change is required, while.a group of concerned re- sidents here have shown by their attendance at an open meeting that they feel physical handicapped children are being overlooked. We would hope that the debate within the Kootenay aocietye for Handicapped Chil- mn that will from the Nelson branch's orodagal at resolve any prob- lems. It should result in either a reaffirma- tion of the society’s complete aims or see the society clearly in fact — as well as ap- pearance — concern itself strictly with the Po: mentally handicapped. If the former is the case then a CLOWNS ENOUGH to delight any youngster from the ages of three to 93 were involved in the Castlegar Figure Skating Club's wind- up carnival held recently at the Cas- tlegar Arena. A crowd estimated at close to 450 persons jammed the arena to watcli the carnival which this year took the theme of a circus parade. A spokesman said the figure skating sessions had been very suc- cessful with the emphasis on proper train- ing.
