(AP) — The question triggers silence from Duane Eddy, whose reverberating electric guitar has rumbled through music history for 28 years. “How would you like to be remembered?” he's asked. The man whose thundering guitar licks have roused audiences throughout the world quietly reflects for a moment. ‘ ‘Then he answers: “I'd like to be the biggest selling instrumentalist of ail time.” Although record sales are unofficial, Eddy says he's sold more than 100 million records since his most famous song, Rebel Rouser, came out in 1958, and he still sells 100,000 to 150,000 albums a year He had 25 original albums, and now that reissued albums have been added, he figures he has 55 to 60 albums to Suites from *45 2.5" Weekly rates from *435.5" (Canadian Currency) Valid Until May Ist, 1986 Prices subject to change without notice © Luxurious downtown high-rise © Panoramic view of the harbor and Victoria © Suites for the price of a room © Weekly and monthly rates * Renowned Hy’s Steak House * Bartholomew's Garden Restaurant © English Pub © Doubles Oyster Bar EXECUTIVE HOUSE HOTEL 777 Douglas Street, Victoria, British Columbia V8W 2BS Call toll-free and ask for Operator 7 If the answer is yes then you're invited t Checker's Fastball Club Toga Party Friday, March 14 DOOR PRIZE — “SASKATCHEWAN BIG ONE” Plus Other Drink Specials! During the past few years, he hasn't worked much until last November when he moved to Nashville from Lake Tahoe, Nev On his first day here, Emmylou Harris called and gave him a job playing on her new album, Thirteen. He's also recording in England with a trio called Art of Noise Last fall, he joined Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis and Junior Walker for a special concert of rock ‘n’ roll legends at the Meadowlands Arena in New Jersey “It was good fun,” the soft-spoken, bearded instru mentalist said. “The reviewers were kinder to me than the others. “I think they hadn't seen me in a while, and I caughit them off guard.” Eddy's famous Rebel Rouser sold three million copies when he arrived on the music scene at age 20 with help from Dick Clark. Clark, of American Bandstand fame, found teenagers liked Rebel Rouser better than Stalkin’, the song on the flip side that was considered the “A” cut of the record. “It was a good title and it was the rockest rock ‘n’ roll sound,” Eddy recalled. “It was different for the time.” He followed Rebel Rouser with Because They're Young, Peter Gunn, 40 Miles of Bad Road and The Ballad of Palladin. He also scored theme music for such movies as Pepe and Gidget Goes Hawaiian. He appeared in the movies Thunder of Drums and The Wild Westerner and on the television western Have Gun Will Travel. “I realized acting was a whole other profession, and it wasn't my talent,” Eddy said in an interview In the 1970s, he worked behind-the-scenes in music production work, mainly in Los Angeles “I played what the people wanted to hear — would play if they could,” he said. what they NEC hosts series The West Kootenay Na tional Exhibition Centre is currently hosting two: audio- visual series.
