The boycott of the expo- sition would be an effective measnre if the exposition were under the auspices of the French generals. But as it isa national institution its success or failure will effect only the French people, who have not only had no hand in convicting Dreyfus, but are displaying’ no great interest in the affair. The police are very aggressive in ‘the far north. Both in Dawson City and in Skagway the gambling dens have been closed. About the first of the month the police ordered that every table should beshut down and besides giving the order the po- lice were on hand to see that it was carried out.
