The trouble with me is I never learned how to speak Yellow Pages, It’s a language of the 20th century, born of frustration, nurtured by ob- scurity, and dedicated to the theory that by the time you find it, you no longer need it. In the language of Yellow Pages, a rug is a ‘i curtains are “draperies,” milk is “a dairy product” and cars are “industrial automotives.” A plumber is a “plumbing contractor,” an electrician is an “electrical contractor” and hi- fis are listed under Sound Systems and equipment. Roaches are listed under Pest Control, exterminating and fumigating, a taco is under Mexican Food Products, a tail- pipe under Mufflers and Ex- haust Systems, and a. pencil is Erma Bombeck under Advertising Specialists. One of the most frustrating encounters in the Yellow Pages is trying to finda doctor, who is listed under Physicians, who are subdivided into M.D.s and D.O.s, who are also listed under Physicians and Surgeons, group, associate and corporate practice, and who aren't in, anyway, and whose phone is being answered by a doctor's answering service . . . See Physicians and Surgeons Ex-- change. You should begin to worry about yourself when you begin to think like the Yellow Pages. Recently, I wanted to call a flea market and caught myself just in time. Flea market would definitely not be under F, but probably under something like Swap Meets. I turned to the W's and read, “See Flea Mar- Range By now, you have been packing school lunches for six months. There comes a point where your creativity dries up. Take heart! KINDSCHY 1979 has been declared the Year of the Child by the United Nations. This is an extention of the growing concern for the ~ individual rights of all people in all the world. The United~ Nations has brought to the attention of all that rights of children include the concern of the populace for their well-being. As with any such official declaration, this probably is not the first, and it definitely will not be the last, you hear about it... : The Lutheran Church, as, well as-‘many others, has made this its theme for the year. It seems unnecessary to say that each child is a unique creation and special to God, who is the author and giver of life, but’ society makes it necessary. The totally dependant child in need of our love often becomes the recipient of all our pent up frustrations, anxieties, disappointments, and — daily pressures in one swift blow or verbal lashing. Parents intent on loving their children work so hard to give them “the good things in life” they often.do not realize until much too late that they failed to give the easiest and most important gift, namely themselves; their: time, com- panionship, concern, their true lgve. Some would-be parents, in pursuit of their happiness and maintaining their rights; see fit. to make themselves lord over another's right to life with the self justification that the un- " born child has no rights for it really is not life, What ought to become clear as we look year is not a year for “Kiddie Lib”.
