According to Jack Hamilton, General Manager of the Insurance Brokers Association of B.C., those meetings represent important op- portunities for individuals to maxi- mize the value they get for each auto insurance dollar. Hamilton says, “When you buy auto insurance, you’re buying a product that protects you, your family and your property from un- expected losses. “Given the price of auto insur- ance, it really makes sense to take a few moments to understand that product — to be sure that it's gong to deliver the protection you need. “For instance, ICBC has intro- duced many new coverage op- tions over the past few years, and some of theme could save you money,” he says. According to Hamilton, one area that many motorists should review is the deductible they pick for col- lision and comprehensive cover- ages. “If you have an older vehicle, you might want to consider whether you actually need colli- sion coverage in the first place. “If you are willing to take a high- er deductible, that is, pay a bit more of any loss yourself, both your Collision and Comprehensive premiums will be lower,” he says. A broker can outline ways that car- pooling or using Park and Ride transit services can lower premi- ums. | also suspect that there are some motorists who have missed the fact that ICBC has a lower rate for people who commute less than 15 kilometres each way,” Hamilton says. “On the other hand,” he says, “you may wish to review your lia- bility insurance limits to make sure they are adequate. “Court awards are ever increas- ing, especially in the United States, so it’s worthwhile to talk to your broker about the level of pro- tection you have in the event you seriously injure someone in a traf- fic accident.” Hamilton also notes that mo- torists should discuss the option to increase the amount of their pro- tection against underinsured mo- torists to $2 million from the $1 mil- lion limit provided as part of the ba- sic coverage. He adds, “renewing an ICBC policy is not like paying your utility bill. Autoplan changes every year, and the insurance brokers who sell Autoplan policies are your best source for help in sorting out all of the options. “We want you to end up with the best protection your premium dol- lars can buy..” Members, Support Your Association Autopian with BCAA! 596 Baker St., Nelson ¢ 352-3535 [Go TRES| WINTER WHEELS MPV's, Mazda 626, 929, Ford Probe, Honda Prelude LIMITED QUANTITIES Take Off or New 1507 Columbia Ave. Castlegar - 365-2955 Need a car?
