Ding- ley bill under which an attempt is made to deprive the Canadian Pacific of busi- ness not prove as successful as is feared, Canada can: ot ignore the spirit which |W inspired the obnoxious clause. The motive was jealousy of the Cana-| i! dian Pacific, and of the general Cana- dian carrying the trade, and the clause stands for a desire on the part of indus- trial capitalists in the United States: to nge every pessible method, fair or foul, to injure the Dominion’s business for _ the benefit of that of the Fepablics to grush Canadian enterprise and competi- ‘ion. If legislation, no matter its nature, will prevent Canadian ay petition, that ition will ba enacted in the United States, perhaps not immediately, or all at once, but it will be procured as cer- tainly as transportation companies and trusts can secure legislation south of the border.—Toronto Star. ——_.
