The Castlegar couple's journey for Canadian unity came to an end last week after receiving Quebec premier “When we showed him the banner (with the other premiers’ signatures), he said ‘All my buddies. I’ve been spending a lot of time with those people. They’re my friends.” And as open as Bourassa was toward the other premiers, he was even more so with the ums. “He put his arms around both of our shoul- ders and gave a squeeze,” Nancy said. “He was very down to earth, very Canadian.” Bruce said Robert Bouras- sa’s signature on ‘He put his arms around both of our with the final sig- nature in place, shoulders and gave a squeeze. He was very they would be down to earth, very Canadian.’ heading back a little earlier than — Nancy Ketchum planned. “We would like tures of the nine other provincial premiers. Now, with Bourassa’s signature on paper, it’s time for the two to head home. Reached in Montreal, Nancy said the meet- ing with Bourassa served to cap a very enjoy- able trip. “It went really well,” she said. “We felt like we were living history.” Nancy said reports of Bourassa being selfish and uninterested in what the rest of the provin- cial leaders wanted were untrue. to get involved in the referendum campaign in B.C., so we would like to get back in plenty of time for that,” he said. “We expect to be back by early October at the latest.” So, with their Canadian unity campaign completed, the Ketchums will return to Castle- gar with memories of people they've met and places they’ve been, not to mention a banner with 10 premiers signatures’ on it. “We’re going to keep it as an historic sou- venir,” Nancy said. In his remarks Rankin states, “quite clearly, this subsequent report has been written with greater care and with a view to wider dissemination; by contrast, the ‘draft’ report often con- tains only a broad outline of ideas...” But on Tuesday Rankin said even if the second re- port was released, it wouldn’t contain anything that isn’t already in the first copy. “It would be more of a summary,” Rankin said. “It. would be of no additional It’s just that this one is pack- aged a little better.” Rankin was asked by the city to go through the two year study and determine what could be released to the public. The report is a critical assessment on the efficiency of the city’s oper- ations. He is a key government consultant on the new Free- dom of Information and Pri- vacy Protection Act. Rankin used the act as guideline to make the report public, a first for B.C. mu- nicipalities. “I was delighted the exer- cise came along when it did.” Brian L. Brown.
